“The school’s ethos, high expectations and exceptionally rich curriculum contribute strongly to pupils; spiritual, moral, social and cultural development."

Ofsted 2019

"I really enjoy the sense of family between everyone and the fact you aren’t alone in anything. The houseparents are really lovely and helpful. Overall, I like how everyone is like a family."

Boarder

The school is brilliant especially the after-school activities, wonderful teachers and friendly staff. They give great merits to the pupils for their work and achievements.

Year 2 Parent

My daughter has been part of the Royal school for the last 8 years ! She’s always felt safe and valued and enjoys being part of a community. It will be a sad day when she leaves the school to go to university, but we all have fond memories that will stay with us for years to come.

PTA Member

The incredible choice of extra-curricular activities is testament to the school's promise to encourage pupils to explore a variety of hobbies and find their own passions alongside the set curriculum.

Our Values

Initiative

Initiative and independent learning is built into our curriculum and encouraged through our extended day provision.  We encourage our pupils to solve problems themselves and work hard to give them the tools to do so.   This could be through problem solving in den building club, or learning to co-operate in Lego Therapy or playground games.

Risk

All success is founded on taking the first step into the unknown.  We support our community to take risks and encourage them to develop the skills they need to be resilient and solve any problems they encounter on the way. Our children are excited to try anything new and get ‘stuck in’ to new learning and new experiences.  We aim to nurture their love of risk so they keep that excitement throughout their whole lives.

Community

We truly feel like a ‘Royal Family’.  We welcome families, pupils and staff into our community and encourage everyone to play an active part in building strong links to support our school. Our active Parent Teacher Association hold wonderful events throughout the year to bring all elements of the community together, and we also provide opportunities through events such as Founders’ Day, Prize Day and year group events such as the Easter Service.

Trust

At The Royal School, our pupils take pride in being trustworthy learners.  They can be trusted to do our best, trusted to be supportive and trusted to uphold the school values. As a school, we trust our teachers to support all pupils in their learning and personal development. This trust is seen in the outstanding curriculum that is delivered in each classroom every day, the range of experiences on offer for our children and the commitment of our children to making the most of every opportunity.

Respect

The respect we have for one another can be seen in the diversity of our community and the acceptance of all pupils, staff and families for who they are. This is lived out every day in the pride with which pupils share their different achievements, both in and out of school, and the pleasure staff and pupils take in celebrating all successes, however small.  Respect is seen in the exemplary behaviour of our pupils and the care given to them by our staff.

Balmoral

I have been Head of Balmoral House for over 2 years, and I am proud of the development and vision we have created as a house that supports and cares for each other. The Royal is a family school – my own family have attended and worked within the school for the last 8 years - and in Balmoral we embody that ethos with an overarching theme of kindness.

Buckingham

Welcome to Buckingham House. My name is Mr Pickering and I am so proud of the House that I have the pleasure of leading. I have worked at the Royal School for just over four years, acting as a Teacher of PE and Subject Leader of Boys’ PE. I make it my daily mission to ensure students feel supported, encouraged and part of our fantastic community. As well as a clear passion for sport, I also love to spend time with my family, going on long walks with my dog and playing drums.

Sandringham

My name is Miss Mulvey and I am honoured to lead Sandringham House. This is my fourth year at The Royal School and I have been a parent here for almost 10 years. I am passionate about the school’s values and its ethos of ‘service before self’. In addition to being a Head of House I also teach Science and, in my spare time I have many hobbies, including wildlife photography, bird watching, illustration, silver-smithing and playing guitar.

Windsor

Mrs Goodlad, Head of Windsor House, with 20 years of loyalty to both The House and The Royal School. Making the most of the outdoors, gardening, travelling and sightseeing are some of my favourite hobbies, along with swimming, cycling and running. Windsor House prides itself on its spirited competition with a long history of winning many whole school events; Sports Day, Music competition just to name a few.
