Adult and Child lessons
Our adult and child classes allow you to enter the water with your child and interact with them in the swimming pool. It is a teacher-lead class, full of play to provide a stimulating and rewarding class for yourself and your child. This class can be started at 18 months and runs until your child is 2½ years of age.
Starfish 1
- Safe entry into the pool by both adult and child
- Use swing dips to introduce baby to water
- Support baby on the front and move freely around the pool
- Support baby on the back and move freely around the pool
- Cueing baby and washing face in water.
- Exit pool safely
Starfish 2
- Parent holding baby facing them and submerging in the water so baby can see them go under
- Move freely around the pool using the safety hold
- Move around the pool using the seat hold, bobbing baby up and down
- Support baby on the back while walking backwards and zigzag through water
- Encourage baby to wash face with water or submerge baby in water
Starfish 3
- Support baby under the arms and encourage baby to flop gently into the water from a sitting position on poolside
- Encourage baby to move from a front position to a back position using flip flop rhythmical movements
- Encourage baby to reach for a toy while moving around the pool, supporting the baby on the front
- Help baby to use a kicking action to move through the water while supporting the baby on the back
- Use the safety hold to support baby and roll baby away from parent and then back towards parent
Starfish 4
- Support baby by the arms or hands and encourage baby into pool from a sitting position
- Using a forward hold encourage and gently submerge baby
- Use the little harbour hold move around the pool encouraging movement from baby
- Encourage baby to roll from a front position to a back position with support
- Encourage movement from baby by swiftly walking backwards whilst supporting baby on the back
- Assist and encourage baby to hold onto poolside and climb out (if baby has physical ability)
Starfish 5
- Hold baby's arms or hands, encourage baby to jump into water from a standing position on poolside
- Support baby and encourage them to roll from a back position to a front position
- Encourage baby to make kicking movements with support either in a surf hold or using a woggle
- Encourage baby with cues to submerge in a duckling dive
- Cueing baby to submerge vertically and rotate 180' in the pool
- Support baby in a front hold, encourage baby to move forwards and grasp a toy then return with support in a back float position
Starfish 6
- Encourage baby to enter water freely from a sitting on poolside
- Encourage baby to move freely through the water, either with minimal support or a buoyancy aid
- Cueing baby to submerge vertically and rotate 360' in the pool
- Support baby by the hands and encourage movement in a figure of 8 or snaking pattern through the water
- Take baby for a front or back ride through the water with or without support
- Cueing baby to submerge in a duckling dive towards the poolside, encourage them to hold onto wall and then climb out
