Job Vacancies

Secondary Teacher of English

The Royal School is seeking a highly motivated and innovative English teacher to join its successful English team from September 2017. The aptitude and enthusiasm to teach a wide range of abilities from ages 11-18 is essential. An ability to teach A level and ambition and passion for the subject is crucial.  We would welcome applications from both experienced teachers and NQTs.

The English team is at an important stage in securing the highest standards of learning and teaching. 2016 GCSE results saw 87.5% of our students gaining A*-C in both English Language and Literature. The successful candidate will be joining a strong team with dedicated and passionate teachers and benefit from the team’s established partnership with The University of Wolverhampton’s Teacher Training Programme, which is helping to develop the next generation of ‘outstanding’ teachers.

As a result of The Royal School’s excellent CPD programme and the supportive English team, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to: develop professionally; improve and extend their knowledge; develop skills and experience; share outstanding and innovative practice; and contribute to the development of an exciting, challenging and supportive learning environment in and outside of the classroom.

At KS4, we have a three year curriculum with all students presently following the AQA GCSE English Language and Literature. At KS5, our popular AQA English Literature A and AS levels are currently offered. We have two strong mixed gender AS groups in addition to the A level group. These are all taught within a dedicated suite of classrooms.

Extra-curricular provision in English is an essential and vibrant part of the wider curriculum. Students regularly experience live productions of set texts along with tailored workshops, lectures and lead on debating within the school.   Contribution to this aspect of the team’s passion is essential.

The Royal School is at an exciting time of development. The new free school is an all-through (Reception to Y13) ‘independent’ school without day fees whilst still providing excellent boarding at affordable fees. Alongside the growth in pupil numbers, there will be an expansion in the curriculum, enrichment activities and improved facilities, enabling us to extend and enhance still further the range of opportunities for all our young people.

The Royal School has achieved excellent academic results throughout its history and has an outstanding reputation for nurturing and developing confident, well-disciplined and successful individuals who progress successfully to the next stage of their life and career. We relish this next phase in its existence which enables us to review and build on our current success in preparing our young people for a rapidly evolving world and hope you will too.

Contribution to the broader curriculum and our compulsory enrichment programme is an essential part of the role.

The closing date for applications is 11 May.
