In Years 7 and 8 pupils at The Royal study a broad range of subjects based on the National Curriculum, but going well beyond in depth and breadth.
They have lessons in English Language and Literature, Mathematics, German, Spanish and French, History, Religious Studies, Geography, Science, Physical Education, Art and Design, Music, Design and Technology and Home Economics.
During Year 8 pupils are invited to select four GCSE options to study in Year 9 alongside the core compulsory GCSE subjects of English, Mathematics and Science. Every child receives individual support in the decision-making process with a parents evening in December; opportunities to meet with subject teachers into the New Year, and a further parents evening at the end of January. Final option forms are submitted mid-February.
In Years 9, 10 and 11 all lessons are their GCSE courses – a three-year programme involving the compulsory subjects of English, Mathematics and Science plus the four further options selected during Year 8. Final examinations are taken towards the end of Year 11.
The Royal is widening our curriculum in September, 2019, by offering BTEC Level 2 courses in Business, Information Technology and Sport.
