Lesson 7
A unique approach to this programme and one that makes The Royal stand out, is Lesson 7 – a fun session that runs daily and is mandatory for all students from Years 7 to 11 from Monday to Thursday. Pupils are able to choose from approximately up to 70 activities during the course of the year, often with surprising results. Not only does the compulsory element create – quite literally – a level playing field for all, but it also motivates and educates on many levels, not to mention reveals hidden skills and abilities that may otherwise never have surfaced!
Also for Years 9 and above is the School’s Combined Cadet Force; a scheme run in partnership with the Ministry of Defence to teach personal responsibility, leadership and self-discipline. There are training camps, opportunities to learn to fly and develop teaching and communication skills useful in wider life.
Clubs and Societies
The Royal also provides numerous clubs and societies all of which are optional, but it is very much a part of our culture to encourage students to participate in at least one of these.
Seniors are also encouraged to participate in the renowned Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
Holiday camps for under 14s
The Royal School works in partnership with Ultimate Activity Camps to provide holiday activity weeks for children up to 14 years old.
The camps are run on our school premises during the school holidays by experienced and enthusiastic activity leaders and provide children with the opportunity to have fun, meet friends and try new activities. The camps are quality-assured, Ofsted-accredited and offer 40 different exciting sports, games and creative activities each week. Click here for further information.
