Stanley criteria
Stanley 1
- Enter the water safely
- Splash feet at water’s surface holding wall/woggle/assistant and then return to a standing position
- Swim forward’s and backward’s through the water aided for 5 metres
- Walk forward 2 metres and get back to side
- Move through the water for 2 metres on the back, role to regain feet.
- Blow a small object across the pool for 2 metres
- Travel under a woggle bridge and through a shower created by a watering can
- Take part in a teacher led game
- Exit pool safely
Stanley 2
- Enter the water safely from the poolside
- Blow bubbles into the water, with mouth or nose submerged
- Swim through the water for 2 metres on the front while blowing bubbles, return to an upright/standing position
- Swim through the water for 2 metres on the back (ears in water) return to an upright position standing
- Perform a star float on front and back
- Use front paddle action to move ball across the pool
- Push and glide on the back and front
- Roll from front to back, looking at the ceiling
- Climb out of the pool safely
Stanley 3
- Enter the water from poolside, move forwards 1 metre, then return and exit the pool unassisted
- Blow bubbles into the water with nose and mouth
- Perform a star float/pencil while on the back and regain the feet
- Swim through the water while on the back for 5 metres
- Swim through the water on the front for 5 metres
- Complete a 360’ turn with feet off the floor
- Roll from back to front and return onto the back
- Jump into the water from poolside with hand support from teacher
- Take part in a teacher led game/song
Stanley 4
- Answer 2 questions on poolside safety
- Swim 5 metres on front paddle, roll onto back and swim 5 metres on the back
- Swim on front and blow bubbles
- Pick up an object from the bottom (little pool) (no armbands)
- Perform 2 floating positions (star, pencil, mushroom) can be done on front or the back
- Push and glide on back, tuck up and finish upright
- Swim front/back in a woggle whole width (must be flat in water)
- Take part in a teacher led game
- Jump into the water (no help)
- Climb out of pool safely (no help)
Stanley 5
- Answer 2 questions on poolside rules (read pool rules)
- Swim 2 metres of front paddle, without aids
- Swim 2 metres back paddle, without aids
- Hold 3 different types of floating positions, each for 3 seconds (star, pencil, mushroom)
- swim and blow rhythmically
- Jump in from poolside, turn and swim back
- Swim front using 2 floats 1 width
- Swim back using 2 floats 1 width
- Push and glide on the front (face in water and blowing bubbles)
- Push and glide on the back (arms by side)
- Pick up a sinker from the little pool
- Kick on front 1 width 1 float
- Kick on back 2 width 1 float
Stanley 6
- Push and glide on front (arms up)
- Push and glide on the back (arms up)
- Swim through a submerged hoop
- Swim 5 metres on front using a breaststroke type kick (woggles on)
- Swim 4 metres on the front roll onto back and swim 4 metres to finish width (must be a smooth transition)
- Jump into the pool ,tread water then return to the poolside
- Swim 5 metres back (arms over)
- Swim 5 metres on front (arms over, face in)
- Swim on the front, tuck up and return on the back
- Attempt a sculling action in a woggle (head or feet first)
Stanley 7
- Star float, slowly change to a narrow float then return to a star float
- Push and glide on front and roll onto back (straight body, arms up)
- Push and glide on back then roll onto front (arms straight, straight body)
- Swim a width of Dolphin kick
- Swim a width front crawl (side breathing)
- Swim width on back (flat body)
- Swim breaststroke (woggle on) full stroke (feet turned out)
- Scull 5 metres head first
- Treat water for 10 seconds
